Yes, by using a HDD mounting kit, you can install a Toshiba 2.5" drive into your desktop or tower system. Contact your local computer supplier for kit availability.

If you are using a single drive configuration, set jumpers to Master. If you are using a two drive configuration, you can set the drive as either the Master or Slave, depending on what the other drive is set at. In most situations, Toshiba's Hard Drives are shipped with no jumper present, making it a master drive.

There are some systems that are unable to recognize the new larger Hard Drives on the market. 3rd party software is available that breaks the "capacity barrier". A suggestion is Disk Manager DiskGo by Ontrack. Check with your local computer/software supplier for availability or contact the software manufacturer.

HD DVD is a new optical disc format that stands for High Density Digital Versatile Disc. It uses a blue laser to achieve a higher density disc structure than regular DVDs, allowing for more data per disc. It also uses newer video codecs than standard DVDs, meaning that HD DVD delivers up to six-times the video resolution of normal DVDs. A new seamless interactive navigation system and higher quality multi-channel audio have also been added. This all provides the HD DVD consumer with a higher quality audiovisual experience and a greater amount of interactivity than standard DVD.

As with standard DVD, HD DVD has both single layer (SL) and dual layer (DL) discs. In fact, the physical characteristics of HD DVD media are essentially the same as standard DVD. Both media types consist of two 12 cm diameter, 0.6mm thick discs which are bonded together to give greater physical stability. SL discs have a capacity of 15GB and DL discs have a capacity of 30GB. Because of their physically similar characteristics, HD DVD discs can be made on the same production line as DVD discs, making the cost of making a HD DVD disc comparable to that of a standard DVD.

This also makes it possible to make combination discs that contain both HD DVD and standard DVD content, allowing these discs to be played on both standard and HD DVD players!
